Xixian promotes poverty relief through industrial development
The poverty-relief model of "business entities + industrial bases + poor households", which was introduced last year in Qinhan New City, Xixian New Area, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has greatly benefited locals in the area.
Based on the model, the new city government launched industry subsidy funds of more than seven million yuan ($1.04 million) to build industrial demonstration bases, where poor people can find jobs or undertake contract projects.
"My son and I come here to express our gratitude and send you a banner. We couldn't have gotten out of poverty without your assistance," said Zhang Ying's father as he grabbed the hand of the director of the Xincheng Vegetable Planting Cooperative.
Xia Jing, a government official who helped lift Zhang Ying out of poverty, said that Xincheng took full advantage of their own strengths and established a long-term system for poverty alleviation, and that industrial development enabled 83 poor households to earn a stable income.
The new city will continue making efforts to promote industries and get more people involved in industrial development, which will help lift them out of poverty.
