Three job fairs were held recently in Airport, Fengxi, and Jinghe, three new cities in Xixian New Area, Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The fairs were designed to achieve a higher rate of employment in the new area, attract rural residents back home to work or start businesses, and help lift the poor out of poverty.
Over 14,000 positions in 295 companies were offered, including jobs as flight attendants, housekeepers, chefs, machinists, operators, cashiers, and plumbers, with monthly salaries ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 yuan ($449 to $1,495).
The human resources and social security department set up stands to provide consulting services, professional guidance, skills training, entrepreneurial services and salary information.
More than 18,000 job seekers attended the fairs, of which about 4,060 reached preliminary employment agreements.
Another two job fairs will be organized in Fengdong and Qinghan in mid and late March.
