The greater Xi'an area (which consists of Xi'an city, Xianyang city and Xixian New Area) plans to take advantage of its underground space as part of its new urban plan by launching a demonstration project in Fengdong New City, Xixian New Area on June 29.
Kang Jun, director of the administrative committee of Xixian New Area, announced the launch of the projects, while Liu Zheng, director of the Fengdong New City administrative committee, gave a speech.
Stretching 19.9 kilometers from Weihe River to the Beijing-Kunming expressway, the new urban plan includes a core area covering 33 square kilometers.
The underground project will make proper use of the one million square kilometers of underground space, and will cost a total of 12.6 billion yuan ($1.91 billion).
As the largest and most complex in Shaanxi province, the project will help improve urban facilities to promote transportation, underground pipelines and parking networks.
Two nodes have been set at Fengdong Avenue and Kunming No 2 Road.
Liu said that Xixian New Area has disclosed its innovative development plan, and Fengdong New City and the Planning and Management Bureau made the construction plans with help from top design talents.
The launch of the underground project has raised the curtains on the new urban plan and strengthened its development, both above and below ground.
Fengdong will continue carrying forward with its innovative spirit to build the project into a model and benefit citizens.
