Xixian investigates relic damages after tremors
Officials in Xixian New Area conducted a survey to ascertain damages caused by tremor to cultural relics in Xi'an, Shaanxi province on Aug 10, after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Jiuzhaigou county in its neighboring Sichuan province.
The team, led by Liu Gongyi, director of the cultural relic bureau, assessed the actual damage on the national key cultural relics units in tremor-affected regions, including the Chongwen Tower and Beidu Iron Tower.
After a thorough inspection of the surrounding cultural sites and buildings, the officials put forward several recommendations for the protection of cultural relics, safety control and emergency work needed for affected areas.
Fortunately, the quake did not cause obvious damage to the relics in the Xixian New Area.
