Major projects promote greater Xi’an construction
To accelerate the development of the Xixian New Area, this year’s first two major planned projects for the greater Xi’an area were launched on Feb 18.
According to the plan, the greater Xi’an area will include Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province, the ancient city of Xianyang and the Xixian New Area.
Mao Wanchun, deputy Party secretary of Shaanxi province, and Wang Yongkang, secretary of the Xi’an municipal Party committee, attended the launch ceremony for the major projects—the second stage construction of Xi’an Metro Line 5 and the “Flight Village” project.
The second stage of Xi’an Metro Line 5 will be around 20 kilometers, connecting east and west Xi’an. With a total investment of 9.51 billion yuan ($1.38 billion), the new metro line is scheduled to begin operations in 2020.
Launched by Northwestern Polytechnical University, the “Flight Village” project will include the construction of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industrial base, plus tourism and leisure areas. With a total investment of over 1 billion yuan, the UAV industrial base is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
