Xixian to help Microsoft hold global summit in Shaanxi
A delegation from Microsoft Corporation visited the Xixian New Area in Xi’an city, Shaanxi province on Sept 14 to meet officials of the management committee for discussions on mutual cooperation.
In December 2013, Xixian and the company signed a memorandum to set up an innovation center in Shaanxi, a project playing a crucial role in Xixian’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship and innovation after three years of construction.
Moreover, Microsoft decided to hold its 2016 Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) Global Summit in Shaanxi at the end of this October. This is the first time the biennial summit will be held outside Seattle and it is anticipated that it will stimulate further collaboration between Xixian and Microsoft.
At the meeting, the two sides also discussed preparations for the summit.
Trudy Norris-Grey, MD of Microsoft’s Business Development in the Worldwide Public Sector, said that MIC is a major part of the company’s plan of boosting the global software economy, and is a global brand authorized by Microsoft to push forward regional industrial transformation and economic development.
She noted that the Shaanxi MIC has been designated to create new growth engines for Xixian, adding that the summit is another support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Strategy.
The company will make it a high-end forum for collaborative innovation and economic growth to serve as a communication channel between Xixian, or even the province, and the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, she said.
Norris-Grey, on behalf of the company, thanked Xixian for its aid on the innovation center and expressed her wish that the two will deepen cooperation on matters such as sponge city and smart city construction to achieve further development.
After welcoming the delegation, Yue Huafeng, director of the management committee, said Xixian will work with the company in hosting the summit and is willing to be its Chinese partner with widest and deepest cooperation. Yue would like to see more exchanges in talent training, the information industry, software parks and smart city construction, along with more investment of human, material and financial resources.
